The need for a strong and maintenance-free fitting that could withstand heavy loads led, in 1935, to Otto Sparre-Petersen, an engineer and chief mechanic at Gentofte County Hospital, developing the iconic SP fitting with its famous stirrup top piece. With its classic design, organic lines, and almost indestructible quality, it has since become known as both the industrial fitting and the 'Rolls-Royce of fittings.' For this same reason, it has been used for decades all over the world, from hospitals and embassies to private homes.
