Close to Home

Imagined by TONI

In a world filled with endless digital possibilities, TONI explores how the future of architecture might look. Through a series of 3D-rendered concepts, we imagine spaces that inspire fresh thinking and new perspectives. Today, we explore a project titled 'Close to Home'. This series imagines a better future by embracing limitation: we only build with materials sourced within 100 km of their origin. By narrowing our choices, we reduce transport, preserve cultural design heritage, and foster a deeper connection to home. Using local, natural materials, we focus on function over form, letting new and unexpected combinations emerge-where responsibility, not just aesthetics, guides our decisions.

In this vision, materials like Swedish marble and Norwegian maple wood take centre stage, each bringing a sense of place and purpose to the design. The Swedish marble, with its subtle green hues and unique veining, adds timeless elegance while celebrating the region's natural beauty. The Norwegian maple wood, with its distinct textures and grains, ground each space in authenticity and warmth. Together, these materials not only enhance the visual narrative but also underscore our commitment to responsible production. By embracing what's available close to home, we create designs that honour the land, reduce environmental impact, and inspire a more thoughtful approach to building for the future.
